    What is measles?

Measles is a highly contagious viral disease. It is characterized by a high fever, cough, runny nose, and red, watery eyes. A skin rash, resembling small red spots, may appear on the face and then spread over the body. Most people recover within two or three weeks, although there is a risk of significant complications.

    How to prevent measles?

    • Avoid any contact with people who have measles or are showing symptoms of measles.
    • Vaccination remains the best protection against measles.
      • The measles vaccine is typically administered at 12 and 18 months of age, but it can be given at any age after 18 months for those who are not adequately vaccinated.
      • Some children aged 6 to 11 months receive the vaccine if they are traveling to countries where measles is widespread. However, these children must receive 2 additional doses after the age of 1 for optimal effectiveness.
