    The 18-Month Vaccination Appointment

    The /typo3conf/l10n/fr/rtehtmlarea/Resources/Private/Language/fr.locallang_accessibilityicons.xlf:external_link_new_window_altText Agir tôt program offers, free of charge, to all 18-month-old children in Quebec, an enhanced vaccination appointment to allow parents to discuss their child's development and health with a nurse.

    Vaccination Appointment Procedure:

    • The one-hour meeting takes place at the CLSC with a qualified nurse and involves an examination of the child's physical, motor, cognitive, and socio-affective spheres.
    • Parental participation is required to gather pertinent information to complete the child's file.
    • Following the appointment, if any difficulties are identified, the child will be referred, with parental consent, to the Agir tôt pathway or another appropriate service. The meeting will conclude with the vaccination.

    What is Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV)?

    Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) is a virus that causes infections in the respiratory tract and lungs. It spreads through droplets from the nose or throat of an infected person.

    RSV is highly contagious. It can cause wheezing and symptoms similar to those of a cold or flu. Although it is usually mild, certain high-risk individuals, such as young children and older adults, can develop severe complications, such as pneumonia or bronchiolitis. In some cases, these complications can lead to hospitalization.

    How to Protect Your Baby

    Immunizing infants against Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) involves administering preventive treatment to eligible children.

    The preventive treatment consists of administering antibodies to babies to provide protection against severe RSV infections. It is free during respiratory infection season and available for:

    Booking an Appointment

    Different administration options are available for parents who wish to access this service for their baby:

    • At birth in the hospital or birthing center.
    • At the CLSC during a postnatal follow-up appointment or at a 2- or 4-month vaccination appointment.
    • At local service points (PSLs) for healthy babies aged 4 to 5 months or babies aged 6 to 18 months at risk of complications.
    • Babies aged 4 to 18 months who are eligible but have not received immunization at birth or at a CLSC can receive it by appointment at a local service point (PSL).
